Hi All,

I'm totally new to SpagoBI. Wanna to let SpagoBI, but having an issues to install the SpagoBI.

Follow the website - http://wiki.spagobi.org/xwiki/bin/view/spagobi_server/getting_started

As per the website, I just need to download the "All-in-one", Unzip and start the Tomcat server using startup.bat (double click and the screen just have a slight flash and then nothing happen).

Open the browser and type http://localhost:8080/SpagoBI - This is not working, I'm unable to access the URL.

Could anyone guide me, what are the thing that I missing? My OS is Window 7 64 bits (Hyper-V). Any prerequisites configuration/software installation that I need to done before install the "All-in-one".

FYI, I did not install the MySQL, JRE and etc. Did I need to install the MySQL, JRE first ?

As per the website, every thing since very simple just download the "All-in-one" and install it and it will auto configure all the necessary "thing".

Kindly guide me how to make the installation successfully.

Thanks in advanced.

Hi There,

Not an expert myself in SpagoBI, but using the all-in-one for testing and development. You need to have the JAVA installed and environment set before installing Spago. Make sure you take the right JAVA version (64 bit) and try the installation once more. The all-in-one is using its own TOMCAT and DB so no other installation is required. Once you managed to configure the tool, you will need to use the Start_SpagoBI/Stop_SpagoBI commands to start the system.

I also did a custom installation on another machine (Win 7, 64bit, MS SQL 2008 R2, Tomcat 6), that was a bit more complicated due to all the settings to do on Tomcat.

Good luck,

Zsolt

Hi,

I have install the JDK version 1.7 with 64 bits. Set the System Variable as - JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin.
After that, run the .bat file at bin folder - SpagoBIStartup (a slight flash).

But is not working as well.

Any other suggestion? Anthing that I missing?

Thanks in advanced.

Okay, I downloaded the all-in-one installer for Windows - InstallerSpagoBI-3.6.0_06112012. That installed all the engines (you can select), tomcat and the DB in few minutes. Then simply ran the Start_SpagoBI to launch the system.

On the other machine I did a custom installation - downloaded all the engines I thought I need, a MySQL version from Oracle and Tomcat 6. The wiki page about how to install is pretty good actually, it explains almost all. I had issues modifying the XML files of Tomcat at the beginning.

Let me know how it goes. might be able to help, though I am playing with since a week - have a demo to hack together by tomorrow.

Wow, I'm looking forward to getting this working, but could you make it any harder to get up and running?

I've downloaded the InstallerSpagoBI-3.6.0_06112012.zip which is listed under *Installer*, which you would think would "Install Spago", but it seems I should actually download "All-In-One-SpagoBI-3.6.0-29102012.zip" which is listed under *Binary*.

The InstallerSpagoBI exe, prompts you for the modules you'd like, and then downloads them all, fair enough. But then it won't work, because it complains continually about JAVA_HOME not being set. Even though it is, and other programs like Tomcat or Eclipse have no problems finding Java and running fine.

It's hard to find good info on running Spago, and with only 1821 registered members on this forum, and it being this hard just to get running, I've spent hours on it and not even got it running yet.

Cant the developers make it just find Java automatically, like Tomcat or Eclipse do.

EDIT ** I just found a solution to the JAVA_HOME problem **

Click the Start button (windows logo, lower left corner)
Right-Click Computer
Select Properties
Select Advanced system settings
Select Environment Variables (button)
Add (or edit) a System Variable JAVA_HOME
Enter your JAVA_HOME without any quotes --> But enter it like: C:\progra~1\Java\jdk1.7.0_09

NOT like: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_09

Spago does not understand Windows long file-names, and wants the directory name in 8.3 format.

So frustrating in the year 2012

Well, once you made it running you will see two things (after my week of fight) SpagoBI is actually a very powerful product, and lacks proper documentation :) I bought the book, with the book, forum and hours of try/error I managed to build something simple for a demo.

Good luck!

Dear All,

I try change my JAVA_HOME Envaronment Variables to - C:\progra~1\Java\ire7 but still no luck. It's not working as well.

Below are the steps that I did (can someone let me know what are the thing that I missing) :-
1. Download SpagoBI from - http://forge.ow2.org/project/showfiles.php?group_id=204&release_id=4755
2. Under - b. SpagoBI Server - SpagoBI 3.6.0 - Binary - All-In-One-SpagoBI-3.6.0-29102012.zip (I have download this zip file)
3. Copy the zip file to my hyper-v (window 7 64bits) and extract it to C:\
4. zip file extracted as C:\All-In-One-SpagoBI-3.6.0-29102012\
5. Install jdk (jdk-7u9-windows-x64)
6. Set the JAVA_HOME System Environment Variables - C:\progra~1\Java\ire7 --> Note: I have try set it as (C:\progra~1\Java\ire7, C:\progra~1\Java\ire7\bin, C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin) but not working as well
7. go to - C:\All-In-One-SpagoBI-3.6.0-29102012\bin - right click the "SpagoBIStartup" and run as administrator ---> only a slight flash (Please not that, there is not any .exe file, Start_SpagoBI bat file ...)
8. Open the browser and type http://localhost:8080/SpagoBI - This is not working, I'm unable to access the URL.

Anyone can help me on this. Thanks in advanced.

Hi There,

I had some issues with AnyMeeting.com today -- it is relevant :) - caused by all the different JAVA SDK, JRE installed on my machine. I was obliged to clean it up and remove all what I dont need. At 1st, I installed the JRE and SPAGOBI WAS NOT WORKING!!

I installed Java DSK 1.7.0_09, set the JAVA_HOME to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_04, then re-installed SpagoBI All-in-One with all engines selected. it works...

Though I use a physical machine not a virtual one. Please try to install the SDK and not the JRE......I see that you installed the JDK, but your JAVA_HOME points to the JRE

Hi,

Thanks for you prompt response.

I have try to set the JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_04 in my hyper-v - not working.

ok. I have install the All-In-One in physical machine with as configuration - not working as well.

This time I try another installer - in physical machine as well :-

1. Donwload the InstallerSpagoBI-3.6.0_06112012 instead of All-In-One
2. Extracted the InstallerSpagoBI-3.6.0_06112012
3. This time have an .exe file as SpagoBI.exe
4. run SpagoBI.exe and checked and install all the components - successfully installed
5. set JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_04
6. Start - All Program - SpagoBI - Start_SpagoBI
7. This time is better, at least got error message as below - there are "Access is denied" in the err message - but already login as administrator. Any help?:-

Hi There,

My 'wisdom' reached its limit, I have no idea why it is not working. Please be sure that you dont use Java 1.7, for me that was not working properly, I had to go back to 1.6

Hi cmlo,

1. Set the Java_Home path for JDK in your system and no need to add JRE path also.
2. Then, add Tomact_home lib folder path in you system as Environment variable.
3. Restart your system and run the tomact (.bat) file in command prompt(Run as administrator) in your system.
